Departments

Each student has their own individual needs, wants and unique paths. At St. Anthony Village High School, we are dedicated to inspiring every student, with a purpose of fostering growth of a well-rounded person that is involved in their community. With this work comes high-expectations, in conjunction with strong-support for all of our students.

Career and Technology Education

The Career and Technology Education Department offers two pathways, Pre-Engineering and Construction Careers, and Communications and Information Systems. The pre-engineering pathway includes four levels where students gain experience in the engineering design process as they learn woodworking, welding, metal working, machining, CAD, 3D printing, and how to use hand tools and various machines.

The communications pathway includes three levels where students learn graphic design, desktop publishing, web design, and programming as they complete various individual projects and also gain real experience creating the yearbook along the way. In this department we create a more just and equitable world through the power of design and hands-on learning.

English Language Arts

The language arts involve the various ways humans interact with one another: writing, reading, speaking, and listening. Knowledge of these areas is essential for success in our interactive world. The language arts curriculum at SAVHS is intended to give students substantial experience in each of these areas to build critical thinking skills, promote effective communication, and foster appreciation for the ideas of others. While many courses have a specific emphasis, language arts classes are always integrated to best achieve these goals.

Family and Consumer Sciences

The mission of Family and Consumer Sciences education is to prepare students with the basic knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors needed to function successfully in their multiple roles as family members, consumer, citizen and worker.

Child development students have an opportunity to work with preschoolers during the semester course. Foods classes consist of preparing a variety of foods in a lab setting. A fashion student may enroll in a total of four semester during high school to advance their technical skills. Living on your own (LOYO) allows a student to plan and prepare for life after high school.

Mathematics

The vision of the mathematics department is to "Foster positive relationships with all students so that they will learn, think, and reason mathematically through a cohesive, rigorous, and relevant PreK-12 program."

At St. Anthony Village High School, we provide the required courses for graduation in the state of Minnesota, in addition to electives such as Statistics, AP Calculus AB and BC and Personal Finance. We provide a rigorous and relevant curriculum that prepares all students for their future - whether it be higher education or the workforce.

Music

The Philosophy of the Music Department is:

To provide a well-grounded, literacy-based education in the art form of music;
For students to experience through music of high artistic merit the qualities of self-
expression, creativity, beauty, and inspiration, which will help them gain insight into
themselves, music, and life;
To foster a lifelong understanding and appreciation of music.

Science

The Science Department at SAVHS proudly offers a wide variety of courses meant to prepare students for any career path they choose. All science courses incorporate problem solving, analytical thinking, scientific reasoning, and sound experimental design. Students may select coursework from multiple levels, spanning introductory to honors, Advanced Placement, and College in the Schools.

Social Studies

It is the aim of all department courses to build a body of social studies literacy; to develop an appreciation for the diversity of cultures, people, perspectives, and values; to foster an understanding of human problems and how we meet them; to promote an attitude of inquiry and reasoned judgment; to foster critical thinking and analysis; and to promote and improve the usage of social science tools such as maps, texts, atlases, reference books, periodicals, and computers.

Visual Arts

The mission of the St. Anthony Village art department is to provide an integrated arts education through a dynamic K-12 curriculum and engaging aesthetic experiences.

Our goal for students is to build and create a vital relationship with the arts that assists them in developing independence and critical thinking. We are together a community characterized by diversity, high expectations and support for lifelong learning.

As an art department we want to ensure that through the study of art all students will discover the opportunities and roles they can play in the arts and society.
